TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Driving licences and fitness to drive
You must hold a current, valid driving licence — provisional, full or international — and produce it on (or in advance of) your first training session. You must be fit to drive with regard to legal and medical requirements.
2. Payments and Cancellation
Payments can be made by cash, or if your instructor provides a payment machine then card payments can be accepted.
If you need to cancel or change a driving lesson, 48 hours’ notice is required. Any less than this will result in you having to pay for that booking. If you contact your instructor, they must acknowledge this for it to be valid.
Your instructor will do everything possible to ensure that your lessons start and finish on time but reserves the right to cancel, postpone or change lesson lengths and start/finish times under certain circumstances (e.g., dangerous weather conditions).
The instructor reserves the right to cancel a lesson at short notice if it is suspected that the pupil may be unfit due to the effects of alcohol, drugs (prescribed or otherwise), or any other condition that would cause driving to be dangerous or illegal. In such cases, the lesson fee will be payable.
3. Bookings and Lesson Duration
The minimum lesson period is one hour. If, for any reason, the instructor is late for the lesson, they will make every effort to inform you of their estimated time of arrival. If the delay is more than 15 minutes, this time will be credited to the pupil and, when possible, the lesson will be extended. If this is not possible, the extra time will be carried over to the next suitable lesson.
4. Training Location
All sessions will start and finish at the same location unless alternative arrangements are made in advance. The instructor will choose a location for practical lessons that ensures both pupil and public safety. This may include driving you to and from the practice area — this journey time forms part of the paid lesson.
5. Training Vehicles
Training vehicles provided by the school are taxed, insured for driving tuition, roadworthy, and fitted with dual controls.
If you wish to use your own vehicle, you must supply written confirmation from your insurer that the car is covered for driving lessons supervised by a professional instructor. The vehicle must also be taxed and have a current MOT certificate (if required).
6. Driving Tests and Bookings
Your instructor reserves the right to refuse use of a driving school vehicle for your test if they believe it could pose a risk to public safety.
- If you sit your test in the instructor’s car, the fee is £100 — this includes an hour lesson beforehand and use of the car for the test itself. Payment is required on the day (ideally when the lesson begins).
- If you sit the test in your own car but want your instructor present, the fee is also £100.
- You may choose to sit your test in your own car without your instructor present.
While instructors ensure vehicles are roadworthy and meet legal test requirements, they are not liable for any unexpected vehicle issues on the day of your test. An optional insurance policy may be available to cover such incidents — please ask for details.
If your test is cancelled by the DVSA (e.g., due to bad weather, illness, staff shortages), this is beyond your instructor’s control. Therefore, both lesson and car-use fees for that time will still apply. Your instructor can guide you on how to claim compensation from the DVSA.
7. Code of Conduct
Your instructor agrees to follow the Professional Code of Conduct (a copy is available on request). In the unlikely event of a complaint or dispute, the Code of Conduct will be used to guide resolution.
8. Your Rights
These terms do not affect your rights under consumer legislation.
We reserve the right to change or update these terms without notice, though we will do our best to inform pupils of any changes as soon as possible.
